Creating animated loops to be used for Vista DreamScene
A place to discuss my Orbit DreamScene
Published on May 26, 2007 By TheMasterBaron In Animated Wallpapers
I made my Apollo DreamScene a few months back where you fly around the Moon and Earth. I got a few requests to have a version that just sits and orbits the Earth only. I am unable to post that version on the website, so I'm going to use this blog to track any changes I make to it.

NEW TRIGGERED VERSION (6/14/07): From 6am to 6pm, the dayside is shown, and from 6pm to 6am, the night side is shown.

Orbit is now an exclusive of
VistaDreams.org

Thanks, Master Baron

Fixed the Bold text tag that was left open...

Thanks and Thanks!

Great job on slowing it down & the new sun! Now... When you say 'new dynamic version' do you mean 'triggered video'? ~or~ will it actually be dynamic as desktop earth is dynamic?
on Jun 12, 2007
I mean triggered. It will be a looping video of the day side or the night side.

Very Cool... Very Cool...

Okay... I have to say congrats, you out did yourself this time. I really like this one, It is better than 'others' I have seen. I also am impressed with the cloud cover, and the transition... very nice, a little smoother maybe, thanks again for the slow down!  IM me, let me know what you are using to make all your dreams, I'd like to dabble in it a little.

Hello Joe,

I love your dreamscene. Some suggestions that I am willing to pay for.

Your cloud cover and globe is perfect! One of the best Dreamscenes around!

Some suggestins. (not complaints)...Can you have a version with ?

- No stars or with stars that are just points in the background? The galaxies are distracting when doing my work.
- Low orbit version? ...so that I get the feeling I am looking out from a port in the international spacestation. This would be where the Earth would take up about a fourth or a half of the screen.
- can you make it a slower more graceful orbit? It is still going really fast.

I am glad you are playing with the realtime light\dark effects.

Thank you.

SteveBachochin,

Thanks as these are all great suggestions.

I like the low orbit idea as long as I can keep the detail from dropping off. I used textures from NASA for the earth, and I believe there where some higher resolution ones availiable.
I believe the multi-minute video needed to slow the earth down more would suck up too much memory.

"I believe the multi-minute video needed to slow the earth down more would suck up too much memory."

Perhaps sacrificing the star field (leaving space black) would counter the CPU usage of the multi-minute video. Being close to the Earth would obscure the stars anyways.

I thought slowing down a video would be less CPU intensive. (less is going moment by moment ). Though, slowing it down would require a longer length video...which means more memory.
